Top Workout Songs of 2011…So Far

By Katie, 5:03 am

Some of you may remember Chris Lawhorn from the workout music site Run Hundred. He created an exercise playlist for me based on my love of Lady Gaga, and since then he’s shared with us other top playlists for breaking a sweat.

Today Chris shares the top workout songs of 2011 thus far. The bolded ones are those that are currently gracing my iPod. I’m especially glad Adele made the list!

Most top ten lists tend to appear around New Year’s, looking back and taking stock. For workout music, though, there might not be a better time than the summer, when folks are getting back outdoors and back in shape.

As you might expect, the most popular songs in the gym from the first half of 2011 err in favor of pop hits and dance tracks. But, as always, there are a few exceptions. The most interesting developments, perhaps, are Adele’s omnipresence – even in the gym—and the continued crossover between dance and pop music.

Here’s the full list, sorted by beats per minute, based on the 15,000 votes cast in 2011 by subscribers from RunHundred.com:

105 BPM – Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Jamie XX Shuffle)

122 BPM – Jason Derulo – Don’t Wanna Go Home

125 BPM – Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (Kaskade Remix)

127 BPM – Deadmau5 – Sofi Needs A Ladder

128 BPM – Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera – Moves Like Jagger

129 BPM – Cee Lo Green – F**k You (Le Castle Vania Remix) (side note from Katie: I only ever heard the clean version of this song!)

129 BPM – LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem

129 BPM – Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer – Give Me Everything

130 BPM – Tiesto, Diplo & Busta Rhymes – C’mon (Catch ‘Em By Surprise)

150 BPM – Avril Lavigne – What The Hell

I love the Pitbull, Ne-Yo song – Give Me Everything! That song always gets me going…I usually end up shaking my booty a little too : )

  2. I see some familiars :P I listen to completely different music while running than I do if I were, say, driving my car. I love the Pitbull song, Katie Perry and Adele! (well, I think Adele is good driving music, too :P )
I so need to check out runhundred – I’m always looking for motivating running songs :)

  3. I love the Adele remixes – so much more fun than the original! I’ve been digging a lot of Saving Abel + “If I Die Young” by the band perry (not my typical type of music but the lyrics are amazing)

  4. christina says:

oooh i love this list! i need to download adele remixes.

  5. Kathryn says:

I agree Faith, the Band Perry is amazing. I would never have listened but a friend encouraged me and you’re right – the lyrics are amazing

  6. I”m a little bit obsessed with Adam Levine at the minute, so Moves Like Jagger is one of my favorites! Sadly, my mp3 player just died so I’m running without music right now :(

My all-time favorite workout song, though, is Maneater by Nelly Furtado. It motivates me every single time!

  7. Sarah says:

I love the Band Perry. The music video for If I Die Young is gorgeous. But I like to workout to more upbeat music like Born This Way or F**king Perfect (Pink).

  8. Top of my playlist is “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyonce. For sure. It always pushes me through any point in a run or workout where I feel like stopping. Plus Beyonce is just amazing in general.

  9. Nicole., RD says:

I like your taste in workout music! :) Give Me Everything and Party Rock Anthem are #1 and #2 right now. I told hubby that I can’t wait to run outside tonight (even with the heat!) because I want to listen to my updated iPod! I guess that’s the trick to anxiously awaiting a workout — rarely update your iPod!

  10. PlumPetals says:

I’ve looking for songs to update my playlist – this is perfect!
I’m prefer house/techno beats when I’m running/doing any cardio – the top songs on my list at the moment are S&M Remix – Rihanna and Britney Spears, It’s Not Over (Club Mix) – Paffendorf, and True Believer – E-Type. :)
Thanks for the list!! Will check out Run hundred.
